From imperial palaces to breathtaking mountain huts - getting married in Austria

Austria is a real trend when it comes to getting married. Cities like Vienna or Salzburg are a real highlight even abroad when it comes to the big day. People from the USA want to get married in the country of the "Sound of Music", lovers from Japan want to get married where Mozart gave his concerts and people from Germany want to get married in the places where Sissi and Franz loved their weddings.

Getting married in eastern Austria: Emperors, wine and warm weather

Vienna is the starting point for many big decisions. It has always been this way and has lost little of its validity over the centuries. Big decisions for lovers are made almost every minute in the capital. Of the over 40,000 marriages in Austria in 2015, the majority took place in Vienna. Getting married south and north of the Alps between lakes and mountains

In addition to the flat states such as Lower Austria and the mountainous ones such as Tyrol, there are also very diverse regions. Upper Austria, for example, has a lot to offer, from the regions along the Danube including the state capital Linz to the Dachstein Mountains and the Salzkammergut. This is where Styria, the green heart of Austria, begins. With the mountains in the west and the volcanic region in the east as well as the lowlands around the state capital Graz, Styria is probably one of the most diverse federal states. The Styrian Wine Route and the thermal spa region in the southeast are particularly popular with couples. If you want to get married in a thermal spa, Rogner Bad Blumau is the right place for you. Where healing water comes from the earth and Hundertwasser left his mark, you can tie the knot in a relaxed manner. In Austria's southernmost state, where lakes and gentle mountains dominate, the best way to combine a mountain wedding with a view of the lake is to combine it with Hotel 12. Even further west are the mountainous regions of Tyrol with the long Inn Valley and countless wedding venues. Here you can get married in anything from a traditional guest house to a cable car station that has been used as a film set. We are of course referring to the Ice Q in Sölden at over 3,000 meters above sea level. Agricultural buildings such as barns and alpine huts are just as popular as they are unusual for saying "I do".

The westernmost state of Austria, Vorarlberg, offers just as many alpine wedding options, such as the Hotel Sonnenburg in Lech am Arlberg. Here, bridal couples and wedding guests enjoy the alpine ambience of the Arlberg region. Finally, Lake Constance, which is also often called the Swabian Sea, invites you to get married on one of the largest inland lakes in Europe.
