From imperial palaces to breathtaking mountain huts - getting married in Austria
Austria is a real trend when it comes to getting married. Cities like Vienna or Salzburg are a real highlight even abroad when it comes to the big day. People from the USA want to get married in the country of the "Sound of Music", lovers from Japan want to get married where Mozart gave his concerts and people from Germany want to get married in the places where Sissi and Franz loved their weddings.
Getting married in eastern Austria: Emperors, wine and warm weather
Vienna is the starting point for many big decisions. It has always been this way and has lost little of its validity over the centuries. Big decisions for lovers are made almost every minute in the capital. Of the over 40,000 marriages in Austria in 2015, the majority took place in Vienna. No wonder, with so many unique wedding venues. You can say “I do” in Schönbrunn Palace , among other places, or in the mighty St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna’s landmark. Another landmark, the Ferris wheel, also offers the opportunity to celebrate your wedding there. Or right next to some of the greatest works of art in the world, in the Albertina . When you leave Vienna, you don’t have to travel far to find other top venues. On a hill in Baden, for example, with a panoramic view over Baden and the surrounding countryside, you can celebrate in style in the Rudolfshof . Even further south, in Burgenland, one of the most stylish venues for bridal couples awaits. In Lois, with a view over Lake Neusiedl, you can get married at Hillinger , where outstanding wines are also produced. The warm climate in Burgenland and the surrounding regions provides a wonderful backdrop for special weddings even in late autumn.

In addition to the flat states such as Lower Austria and the mountainous ones such as Tyrol, there are also very diverse regions. Upper Austria, for example, has a lot to offer, from the regions along the Danube including the state capital Linz to the Dachstein Mountains and the Salzkammergut. There are also some wedding venues that will take your breath away. In the northeast of the state, in the Mühlviertel, the Eidenberger Alm is a rustic yet modern venue. In the south, at the entrance to the Salzkammergut, lovers will find the Villa Toscana . This top address right on Lake Traunsee offers fantastic opportunities to plan your wedding day in a variety of ways. The further you go into the Salzkammergut, the more massive the mountains become and the more impressive the venues. A wedding on Lake Hallstatt - a World Heritage Site that even has a copy in China - is no problem, nor is a wedding in the Dachstein region .

With the mountains in the west and the volcanic region in the east as well as the lowlands around the state capital Graz, Styria is probably one of the most diverse federal states. The Styrian Wine Route and the thermal spa region in the southeast are particularly popular with couples. If you want to get married in a thermal spa, Rogner Bad Blumau is the right place for you. Where healing water comes from the earth and Hundertwasser left his mark, you can tie the knot in a relaxed manner. In Austria's southernmost state, where lakes and gentle mountains dominate, the best way to combine a mountain wedding with a view of the lake is to combine it with Hotel 12. Here you can get married at 1,750 meters above sea level and with a direct view of Lake Ossiach. Many other venues in Carinthia offer direct access to a lake. Alpine pastures and farms are also available for the wedding party.
The West of Austria: More than just mountain peaks
Although the really high mountains do not start in Salzburg, many winter sports fans are familiar with the Salzburg mountain regions. Salzburg is also one of the best addresses in Austria when it comes to weddings in the mountains. A wide variety of venues can be found there. Whether it is a castle, palace, alpine pasture or farm, you are spoilt for choice here. For example , Prielau Castle on the wonderful Zeller Lake , surrounded by mountains and equipped for a first-class wedding. But those wishing to get married can also find special wedding venues away from the mountains. The Salzburg city boat trip in the state capital offers such an unusual venues. In general, Salzburg is a magnet for lovers and engaged couples, both domestic and foreign. Mirabell Palace, the cathedral and Hohensalzburg Fortress offer opportunities to say “I do” or for the wedding reception. No wonder with this ambience!

Here, small and fine castles on lakes and traditional venues are an insider tip. This includes Mattsee Castle , directly on the lake of the same name.
Even further west are the mountainous regions of Tyrol with the long Inn Valley and countless wedding venues. Here you can get married in anything from a traditional guest house to a cable car station that has been used as a film set. We are of course referring to the Ice Q in Sölden at over 3,000 meters above sea level. Agricultural buildings such as barns and alpine huts are just as popular as they are unusual for saying "I do".

Here, bridal couples and wedding guests enjoy the alpine ambience of the Arlberg region. Finally, Lake Constance, which is also often called the Swabian Sea, invites you to get married on one of the largest inland lakes in Europe. Boats sail here that can be used as wedding venues and first-class venues on the shore can also be rented. In Lochau, the farthest end of Austria, for example, the SENTIDO Seehotel am Kaiserstrand offers the perfect setting for a lavish celebration.
