Marie-Valerie Hall
Civil wedding: At Persenbeug Castle you have the possibility to have your civil wedding performed. This is carried out by a registrar of the market town of Persenbeug and is also possible on Saturdays. The ceremony can be held at your discretion.
Archduchess Marie Valerie, youngest daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, also known as “Sisi”, is the namesake of this beautiful, atmospheric hall in the north-eastern corner of the palace. Of historical interest is the painting by A. F. Seligmann, which shows the unmarried members of the imperial family who gathered in Schönbrunn in 1908 to celebrate a self-written and choreographed play on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Standing in the middle is the then 21-year-old Archduke Karl Franz Joseph, from 1916 Emperor Karl I of Austria, on the right in the back row, the second to last boy's head, is Archduke Dr. Huber Salvator, son of Archduchess Marie Valerie and co-heir of Persenbeug. -
Imperial Hall
The magnificent ballroom on the upper floor of the east wing of the palace is characterized by its lavishly decorated, spacious stucco flat ceiling. Presumably created in 1670/80 by Viennese stucco artists from the circle around Rueber, Castelli and Piazoll, it determines the design character of the hall together with the large central mirror, the opulent border and the winged hybrid creatures in the corners of the room.
Noteworthy is the Joseph Rebell painting of Leiben Castle in Weitental with the imperial family in the foreground, located in the middle of the hall on the courtyard side. It shows the engagement of Crown Prince Archduke Ferdinand, later Emperor Ferdinand the Good, with his bride Maria-Anna, Princess of Savoy, in the closest family circle in the summer of 1830.
The impressive, wood-paneled Imperial Hall, richly decorated with paintings, was primarily used for private events of the imperial family. In August 1887, the baptism ceremony for the later and last Emperor of Austria, Charles I, who was born at Persenbeug Castle in 1887, also took place there. -
Castle Chapel
Church wedding in the castle chapel: This offers space for around 100 people, you can bring your own wedding priest, Roman Catholic, ecumenical and Protestant weddings possible.
The start of construction of the castle chapel can be traced back to 1609. In 1621, the ceremonial laying of the keystone and inauguration took place under Adam Eusebius of Hoyos. The early Baroque two-storey church in the west wing of the castle, with its vaults richly decorated with stucco, stands out clearly from the outside of the castle building with its three apses.
The marbled wooden altar was built in 1819 by Pietro da Nobile above a neoclassical tabernacle. Below the altar is the glass shrine containing the relics of Saint Vincent the Martyr, a personal gift from Pope Pius VII to Emperor Francis I of Austria.
Also noteworthy are the free-standing wooden Renaissance pulpit with its filigree, stately decoration and the beautiful, professionally restored Bach organ with its fine, attractively playful sound volume.
