Getting married in Vorarlberg - it was beautiful!

Vorarlberg, the westernmost state in Austria, impresses with its beautiful and varied nature and cultural highlights such as the Bregenz Festival. Anyone looking for a dream location for a wedding in the region can choose between alpine mountain romance and the dreamily romantic flair of Lake Constance .

The second smallest state in Austria in terms of area and population is known primarily for its unique dialect. "Go ma gi tschutta", "Hääs", "Gadaladalella" or of course "gsi" are the classic terms that immediately identify a Vorarlberg native. The "Gsibergers", as the Vorarlberg natives are affectionately called in the rest of Austria, are known as a humorous and open people despite some language barriers. This is why Vorarlberg has also developed into a popular tourist region for years - both for skiing on the Arlberg and swimming in Lake Constance. And of course Vorarlberg also offers many highlights for wedding anniversaries.

Church wedding in Vorarlberg

There is a wide range of churches and chapels for weddings in the region. For example, the basilica in Rankweil is a popular wedding church. The Michaelskirche in Tisis or the St. Wolfgang church in Meschach also offer a wonderful setting for a church wedding. You can get married in church with a fantastic view of Lake Constance in the chapel on Gebhardsberg in Bregenz.

“Let’s go a little further”… Civil marriage in Vorarlberg

Who would have thought? Originally the main transport connection for passenger and freight traffic, the Wälderbähnle is now a museum railway - and can be booked for civil weddings. Other well-known locations for civil weddings in a special setting in Vorarlberg include the Villa Falkenhorst in Thuringia. Its 10,000 m² park is ideal for an outdoor agape. You can also have a wonderful celebration in the Villa Claudia in Feldkirch. This location is only suitable for civil weddings and is therefore not listed on hochzeits-location.info.

Celebrating a wedding – popular locations and customs in the Ländle

After saying "I do", a big celebration is just as important to the perfect wedding day as a few customs. In Vorarlberg, there are many romantic hotels with large halls that can be used as wedding locations, but a wedding in the noble Villa Raczinsky or on the Gebhardsberg with a view over Lake Constance are also ideal settings for a dream wedding. A wedding celebration on a boat on Lake Constance is also sure to be unforgettable.

Löwensaal Hohenems

For the bride and groom, the day usually begins quite early – and abruptly. They are “shot out” by their friends early in the morning with a particularly loud noise. The next traditional act is usually the bride kidnapping. The groom’s friends kidnap the bride during the first round of dancing at the wedding reception. While his best man has to find her, the groom heats up the mood among the rest of the wedding party with a broom. During the broom dance, the man who is given the broom decorated as a woman has to dance with her – entertainment and a good mood guaranteed! The last Vorarlberg wedding tradition – and probably the one with the most aftermath – is the “Gschända”. Friends of the bride and groom pay a visit to their apartment during the course of the wedding day – and leave clear and less immediately visible traces of the devastation. The cleaning up is intended to bond the bride and groom even closer together.

But before that happens, the big day still needs to be organized to make it unforgettable. Vorarlberg offers ideal conditions for this.
