In close proximity to the reservoir lies Ottenstein Castle, which was first mentioned in documents at the end of the 12th century. During the restoration a sensational discovery was made. The frescoes uncovered at that time in the sacred Romanesque room of the castle chapel are still among the most important in Austria today.
