I can still remember exactly how it was for us when we visited the first wedding location: we got into the car in Vienna completely unprepared, drove to Salzburg and went into the first - and only - location for that day. True to the motto: it will be fine! We realized pretty quickly that it would take a long time until we found the ideal place to get married.
A plan was needed.
The most important thing for us was to find out as much as possible in advance. Since we were still living in Vienna at the time but were planning a wedding in Salzburg, we had to make sure in advance that locations met certain basic requirements, not least to save on our petrol bills.
Let’s go sightseeing… but only if the basics are right!
The basic requirements vary for each couple, but will tend to be roughly the same for many couples:
- Type of location – should it be a castle, a rustic courtyard or would you prefer a wedding on a ship?
- Capacity of the location – is there room for my extended family, or would I be unable to invite my third cousin?
- Costs – what price level is realistic for me?
These points can be clarified very easily in advance, for example, using the search filters on hochzeits-location.info . Only when you are happy with at least these three basic factors should you look at the locations on site.
When visiting the wedding location, you will need to answer the following questions (without claiming to be exhaustive). However, you can even find out many of these in advance using the over 60 search filters on our platform:
- How can the tables be arranged (long table, round tables, how many people at one table) – this information is important for creating the seating plan
- Are there any restrictions regarding table decorations (e.g. menu cards always come from the location or candles are not allowed)
- Menu suggestions and costs?
- Is there a tasting meal?
- Drinks costs – if you want to save money, you can clarify whether tap water can be placed on the tables instead of still mineral water
- If you don't have your own kitchen, can you choose your own catering or are there exclusive partners? Do you pay an extra charge if you don't choose one of these exclusive partners?
- Is there a corkage fee for drinks that you bring with you, such as schnapps or wine from your trusted winemaker?
- For the beer connoisseurs among you: what kind of beer is served? Are the beers on tap or in bottles?
- How is billing done? Is it possible for guests to receive food or drink vouchers or does everything have to be on one bill?
- How big is the dance floor?
- How big is the stage / area for the band?
- When can the band start forming?
- How long can the band play?
- How long can the party last? Is there a curfew?
- Can part of the celebration take place outdoors (e.g. fireworks at night)?
- Does the location also offer decoration of the hall?
- When can we start decorating the hall if we take care of the floral decorations ourselves?
- Can you bring your own wedding cake or desserts? Is there no charge for plates?
- From when do you have to pay extra for the service staff (often a surcharge is charged per employee and hour from midnight or 1 a.m.)
- Are there rooms and how much do they cost?
- Is there a bridal suite?
- Are there parking facilities? Are there parking fees?
- Do you have any tips for wedding bands, florists, photographers, etc. – the wedding locations usually work with fixed partners and can give good recommendations here
I hope this checklist has helped one or the other. And now I hope you have fun looking for a location using the over 60 search filters on www.hochzeits-location.info and on your viewing tour.
We – and other couples – would love to see photos of your viewings! Simply post them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/hochzeitslocation.info .
