What should you look for when choosing a ring? - This is how you recognize quality.

What should you look for when choosing a ring? - This is how you recognize quality. - hochzeits-location.info

Tips from the professionals. We asked jeweler, master goldsmith and gemstone appraiser Andreas Ableitner what to look for when choosing wedding rings to ensure that they last a lifetime.

hochzeits-location.info:
What makes a good ring for you?

Andreas Ableitner: The pursuit of completeness, perfection and something rare and precious is ideally what drives the jeweler and goldsmith you trust. These terms are also very beautiful symbols for marriage, love and connection and therefore also for wedding rings.

Let's look at a ring for a moment through the eyes of a professional. What do we see?

Quite a few customers underestimate the importance of making a simple wedding ring. Making a wedding ring that is as close to perfect as possible by hand is a challenge, because simplicity reveals the biggest flaws. When we consider hiring a goldsmith, we can tell the quality and standards of the goldsmith by looking at a simple wedding ring and perhaps a few diamonds set in the offcuts. Is a surface really a surface? Or do the movement of light on the surface reveal flaws in the material and polish?

We have very high standards because we look at the subject from the perspective of a manufacturer. In other words: We produce our jewelry collections from scratch, alloy them ourselves, and therefore probably know every parameter that is crucial for high-quality wedding rings. Handwork should not look like handwork. "The customer won't see it anyway!" - This attitude must not exist! The high standards for the quality of the workmanship do not stop at the gemstones. We recommend not going below TW/VS* quality, because from this quality onwards the highest cut quality is only worthwhile for the cutters. Remember, a 0.80 mm diamond has 56 facets like a one-carat diamond plus a table in the upper part and possibly a culet in the lower part. Unbelievable, isn't it?

So how do you choose the right engagement ring or the perfect pair of wedding rings?

Here, tastes are as varied as we humans are. Everything is allowed. We are also open to many things. We love challenges, know the tradition, but at the same time we look to the future and therefore produce everything from the classic to the extravagant.
However, certain criteria are more relevant for many people when it comes to wedding rings than for other pieces of jewelry. Marriage itself embodies love, stability, connection and tradition. All of these terms have the connotation of "permanence," which is why most couples want their wedding rings to be of high, timeless quality. The rings are lasting values within a marriage, ideally for a lifetime. Of all the items given on the wedding day, they last by far the longest.

While some pieces of jewelry are only worn for special occasions, such as selected art exhibitions, often only for a few hours in the evening, wedding rings are worn almost all the time. You don't wear the coolest, highest high heels when you go mushroom hunting in the woods with your kids. This makes wearing comfort a more important criterion for wedding rings than for other pieces of jewelry.
As a result, the design of wedding rings often follows this restriction. Wedding rings are therefore usually not as bold or eccentric or graceful as other pieces of jewelry. Within this restriction, however, wedding rings can and may be designed very individually. Wedding rings not only accompany you everywhere, but also for a lifetime.

* The designation TW/VS stands for the color Top Wesselton, i.e. fine white, and the clarity - very small inclusions - of the diamonds. You can find further information on the different qualities of diamonds, for example, at Juwelier Ableitner .
