Perched on a hill and surrounded by a splendid garden, the elegant Castello di Spessa castle stands in the heart of the Collio.
Its origins date back to 1200, but there are also many documents dating back to the Roman period in Friuli. For many centuries the castle was home to the nobles of Friuli. Families such as the Dorimberger, the Rassauer and the Della Torre Valsàssina family have all owned the castle for the last 300 years.
Over the centuries there have been many illustrious guests such as Lorenzo Da Ponte and Emanuele Filiberto d'Aosta, and the famous writer and adventurer Giacomo Casanova also stayed in the castle in 1773.
In 1987 the Castello di Spessa castle and its vineyards were bought by the Pali family and have been the heart of the resort ever since.
