More and more couples want to stay together their whole lives, but the "classic" wedding is becoming increasingly less popular. We looked into the topic in depth last year. At the time, we got to the bottom of the question of why it sometimes takes so long for a marriage proposal to be made (4.5 years on average, according to our survey of over 400 people). You can read all the details HERE . Today I would like to introduce you to a few alternatives to the "classic" wedding. .

The "classic" wedding

First we need to clarify what I mean by a "classic" wedding... for me that means:

  • The bride in a white wedding dress with veil
  • the groom in a smart suit
  • the wedding party in elegant clothing in all colours except white
  • a chic wedding car
  • a registry office
  • a church
  • a wedding with musical accompaniment
  • Champagne reception or Agape
  • a rustic guest house / banquet hall in the community or a great hall in a restaurant or hotel
  • a 3-course wedding menu or buffet
  • Games after dinner to entertain the bride and groom and especially the guests
  • a cool wedding band
  • Bridal Waltz
  • Cutting the wedding cake
  • possibly a midnight snack
  • and an unforgettable party night.

So far so good.

Unusual weddings: Of course, there are other options! ;)

Unusual wedding outfits

Who says that it can't be a dress in the bride's favorite color or with a certain theme that means a lot to the bride and groom - like a Star Wars wedding, for example. A "real" theme wedding also includes a wedding party dressed accordingly - as long as they can identify with it. In my opinion, everyone should be "allowed" to wear what they feel comfortable in. Because if you feel comfortable, you're in a good mood and create a good atmosphere. So personally, I wouldn't force anyone to wear clothes in a certain color or with a certain theme. If you really want to, you could bring a few outfits with you so that the guests can still put on a suitable outfit if necessary or later in the evening.

Alternatives to getting married in church

A popular alternative to a church wedding is a non-denominational wedding. These are often more personal - and can, for example, be held in a place that means a lot to the bride and groom. Who says that it shouldn't be the place where you kissed for the first time, the popular local mountain or a beautiful meadow or bay. A little tip: If you are planning an outdoor wedding, you should 1. always keep the weather in mind and plan an alternative in case of rain and 2. check the accessibility of very special locations - is there a cable car up the mountain for older guests, for example, or should the ceremony only take place in the closest (fit ;) ) circle anyway? Weddings on a boat are also a great idea - on deck in good weather, below deck in bad weather (of course only if there is no risk of seasickness! ;) )

We have not listed alternatives to the civil wedding because you cannot "spare" this date if the marriage is to have legal validity.

Extraordinary wedding photos - Trash your Dress

A wedding photo shoot often begins months before the actual wedding so that a perfect picture can be used for the wedding invitation. New, curious and increasingly popular is "trash your dress". Here, the wedding dress is soiled during a photo shoot - after the wedding, of course - in nature, on a farm or in the forest and is made unusable for later use or permanent storage.

Champagne reception, Agape and bridal games with a difference

There is often a reception after the wedding and the bride and groom provide general amusement with their first games. Sometimes the bride and groom disappear for two hours to take photos. To bridge this time, you can think of some entertainment for the guests. Classics are getting-to-know-you games or coffee and cake. If you like something a little more unusual, you can get inspiration here:

  • How about a museum visit for all guests? Is there an interesting museum near your wedding venue that can be rented privately for two hours? That would certainly be an experience that the guests will never forget
  • City tour: you could organize a private city guide who gives interested guests a short, private tour of the city
  • Photobooth: photo booths that allow guests to take photos of themselves are currently all the rage. If you are looking for a photo booth, take a look at http://hochzeits-fotograf.info - there are over 160 photographers there who provide one

  • Photo frame photos: take a large, golden, perhaps slightly older photo frame with you, give it to the guests and off you go - you'll get some beautiful photos to remember. Alternatively, you could also make a heart-shaped photo frame
  • Let balloons fly with unwritten postcards attached - the bride and groom will surely be happy when they receive mail from the unknown finders later! :)
  • If you are getting married at a winery or in a place that is particularly known for beer or other drinks, a wine or beer tasting might be a good idea. Alternatively, cheese tastings, etc. are also possible.

Unusual wedding meal

Have you ever considered renting a few food trucks instead of the classic wedding menu?

There are now also great alternatives to the wedding cake:

Dancing, celebrating, laughing, crying, being happy

In my opinion, that's all there is to the alternatives. Of course, you can skip the bridal waltz and do a circle dance or something similar instead. The party night can also be shorter or longer. But what no wedding, whether "classic" or completely unusual, should be without are emotions! Enjoy your big day, be happy and relaxed - and then the guests will be too and you will be able to enjoy a wonderful day. Dancing, celebrating, laughing, crying - everything is allowed!! :)
